Requirements

• Must be 15 years of age
• Minimum 150 hours of service commitment
• Evening and weekend hours available for some positions
• High School students can volunteer after school until 5pm
• Be interviewed.  Must have a state issued photo ID.
• High School students 15 - 17 years old require working papers and school ID
• Complete a medical
• Provide two letters of reference
• Submit to a background check and drug screening

On average it takes about 3-5 weeks to be processed and ready for placement.

 

Does volunteering at the hospital mean I will be able to get a job there?

Volunteering at the hospital does not guarantee employment.  We encourage you to be proactive, take initiative, learn and be the best you can.  References will be provided after you complete a minimum commitment of 150 hours of service.

 

Are there volunteer opportunities in the summer?

We accept students for summer placement.  Many students volunteer from June – August.  Apply by the month of May to assure summer placement.

 

Am I able to return during my vacation time or next summer?

Yes, you are able to continue your volunteer time during vacation time or next summer.  Student volunteers can continue their volunteer work during school breaks.

 

Can I stop my volunteer work and continue again in the future?

If you are unable to continue to fulfill your volunteer commitment, you can ask to stop your volunteering and return any jackets and IDs.  To restart your volunteer work, please contact the Volunteer Office to update your file and other requirements as needed.  You may need to update medicals and orientation.
